This vintage circa-1875 Dutch shipping advertisement depicts a woman in traditional Dutch dress and a child standing on a shoreline, gazing out at tall-masted steamships on a choppy sea. Bold typography announces a direct mail service between Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and New York — operated by the Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappij (NASM), which later became known as the Holland America Line, one of the world's oldest surviving passenger shipping companies. A tagline at the bottom reads 'Waar gaat dat schip naartoe? Naar Amerika, mijn Kind!' ('Where is that ship going? To America, my child!'), evoking the era of mass transatlantic emigration from the Netherlands.
