Description
A vibrant early 20th-century Belgian travel poster advertising ferry crossings from Ostend (Ostende) to Dover (Douvres), England, via the turbine steamship 'Princesse Elisabeth.' A group of travellers — dressed in colourful period clothing — gather on the quayside as a large ocean liner rests in the misty harbour behind them. Ostend is a major North Sea port city on the Belgian coast, and the Ostend–Dover route, operated by the Belgian State Railways (Chemins de Fer et Paquebots de l'État Belge), was one of the most important cross-Channel passenger links of the era.
