Description

This vibrant late-19th-century German circus poster advertises Menagerie-Circus Ch. Krone & Sohn, featuring performing lions trained by 'Mr. Charles.' The central image shows a crowned lion draped in a red cape riding a decorative sun-emblazoned chariot pulled by two spotted dogs, while a second lion strides proudly at the top. The poster was lithographed by Adolph Friedländer, Hamburg's celebrated circus and variety poster printer whose workshop produced some of the most iconic European showbill art of the era.
