Description

A young girl in a vivid red dress sits on a chair sipping from a bowl while two attentive cats — one tabby, one calico — look up expectantly at her feet. The image was created as a promotional poster for Lait Pur de la Vingeanne Stérilisé, a sterilized milk sold by Quillot frères of Montigny-sur-Vingeanne, a small commune in the Côte-d'Or department of Burgundy, France. Steinlen's warm, Art Nouveau-inflected lithograph remains one of the most iconic dairy advertising images of the Belle Époque.
