Description

A charming Belle Époque advertising poster depicts a rosy-cheeked nursemaid cradling a plump baby while a cheeky bulldog stands on its hind legs pawing at a table topped with a steaming bowl of hot chocolate. The scene is rendered in warm, flat tones with playful humor typical of late 19th-century French commercial lithography. This is a plate (Pl. 83) from 'Les Maîtres de l'Affiche,' the celebrated Paris print series (1895–1900) that reproduced iconic posters of the era, advertising Chocolat Carpentier — a French chocolate brand.
