Description
This vibrant Belle Époque lithographic poster by Jules Chéret — the 'father of the modern poster' — advertises fashionable ready-to-wear clothing at Aux Buttes Chaumont, a Parisian department store located at the corner of Boulevard de la Villette and Faubourg Saint-Martin. Three elegantly dressed figures are depicted: two women in fine costumes and a young girl in a red dress, all accessorized with hats and a red parasol, with prices of 35 francs for a women's outfit and 2 francs 90 for children's clothing. Chéret's characteristic bold colors, graceful figures, and lively composition made him the defining voice of late 19th-century Parisian commercial art.
