Description
This Art Nouveau lithograph poster depicts a wooden harbor pier with curved railings sweeping toward a row of tall-masted sailing vessels silhouetted against a luminous golden-yellow sky, rendered in the flat, boldly outlined style of Belgian fin-de-siècle graphic art. The lower half carries the bold letterpress text announcing 'La Libre Esthétique — Salon Annuel, Musée Moderne,' with the opening on 26 February. La Libre Esthétique was a pioneering Brussels-based avant-garde exhibition society founded in 1893, successor to Les XX, that championed Art Nouveau and Symbolism in Belgium.
