Description

A sweeping mass of violet-blue iris blooms fills the canvas in Van Gogh's characteristic swirling, expressive brushwork, with a single white iris standing out amid the sea of purple. The lush green sword-like leaves and warm ochre earth anchor the vibrant composition, creating a sense of organic abundance and movement. 'Irises' was painted in May 1889 at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, and is considered one of Van Gogh's most celebrated floral works, now housed in the J.
