Description
Two young girls in white dresses stand among lush garden flowers at dusk, each cradling a glowing pink paper lantern that casts a warm, ethereal light across their faces. The painting is titled 'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose,' named after a popular song of the era, and was created by John Singer Sargent over two consecutive autumns in the Cotswolds village of Broadway, Worcestershire, England. The work is celebrated as a masterpiece of Impressionist light and is now held in the Tate Britain collection in London.
