Description

A luminous botanical illustration depicting Rosa Gallica — the Apothecary's Rose, also known as the Red Rose of Lancaster — rendered with exquisite detail showing a fully opened crimson bloom, two budding roses, and lush serrated foliage on a soft white ground. Pierre-Joseph Redouté, the celebrated Belgian-French botanical artist known as the 'Raphael of Flowers,' produced this plate for his landmark publication 'Les Roses' (1817–1824), widely regarded as the finest illustrated work on roses ever produced. Rosa Gallica is one of the oldest cultivated roses in Europe, historically prized for its medicinal uses and as a symbol of the English House of Lancaster.
