Description
A graceful botanical study of Rosa villosa terebenthina — a soft-pink, five-petaled rose with a golden center — rendered on a pale cream ground with precise green foliage, thorned stems, and delicate buds. The illustration is taken from Pierre-Joseph Redouté's celebrated series 'Les Roses' (published 1817–1824), widely regarded as the finest botanical rose portfolio ever produced, which earned Redouté the title 'Raphael of Flowers.' This particular plate (accession 1965.296) is held in the permanent collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio.
