Description
This exquisite botanical illustration depicts Rosa Hudsoniana Salicifolia — the Willow-leaved Hudson Rose — rendered with delicate pink blossoms, golden stamens, slender green leaves, and ripening red hips against a soft cream background. The plate originates from Pierre-Joseph Redouté's landmark publication Les Roses (1817–1824), widely regarded as the finest botanical illustration of roses ever produced, earning Redouté the title 'the Raphael of flowers.' This particular impression (accession no. 1965.292) is held in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, located in Cleveland, Ohio, one of the foremost encyclopedic art museums in the United States.
