Description

This exquisite botanical plate depicts two rose species: Fig. 1, Rosa rubrifolia (the Redleaf Rose, known for its distinctive reddish-tinged foliage and small pink blooms), and Fig. 2, Rosa Kamtchatica (the Kamchatka Rose, originating from the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East), shown with a large, open pale-pink flower. The illustration is from Pierre-Joseph Redouté's celebrated publication 'Les Roses' (1817–1824), widely regarded as the definitive botanical record of rose species and varieties of the early 19th century. Redouté's refined stipple-engraving and watercolor technique renders each petal, leaf, and bud with remarkable scientific accuracy and artistic elegance.
