Description

This exquisite botanical illustration depicts the Amaryllis Lutea (yellow autumn daffodil) rendered in precise, luminous detail — featuring a rounded white bulb with trailing roots, long arching green strap-like leaves, and a vibrant yellow bloom at its crown. Smaller diagnostic sketches of the flower parts appear beside the main specimen in the style of scientific botanical plates. Pierre-Joseph Redouté, the celebrated Belgian-French botanical artist known as the 'Raphael of Flowers,' produced such plates for the landmark publication 'Les Liliacées' (1802–1816), which documented bulbous flowering plants with unrivaled accuracy and artistry.
