Description

This sweeping Impressionist composition captures Monet's iconic lily pond at Giverny, France, with clusters of white and pink water lilies drifting across a hazy, violet-tinged surface alive with reflected greens and lavenders. The loose, gestural brushwork dissolves form into pure atmosphere, creating an immersive, meditative mood typical of Monet's late grande décoration series. Monet's garden at Giverny, Normandy — which he designed himself and tended for decades — served as the near-exclusive subject of his monumental Water Lilies cycle, now largely housed at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris.
