Description
This luminous Impressionist oil painting depicts a sun-drenched poppy field in full bloom, with vivid red blossoms cascading across a gently rolling hillside while two pairs of figures — a woman and child in the foreground, another pair in the distance — stroll beneath a blue sky filled with soft clouds. The sweeping brushwork and dappled light are hallmarks of Claude Monet's Impressionist technique at its most joyful. The scene is set near Argenteuil, a commune on the Seine River just northwest of Paris, where Monet lived from 1871 to 1878 and produced many of his most celebrated canvases.
