This finely engraved 1873 map depicts the Western Hemisphere in a hemispheric projection, rendered with delicate hand-coloring in muted greens and grays that highlight coastlines, mountain ranges, and island chains across North America, South America, the Atlantic, and the Pacific — including the region labeled 'Polynesien.' Published by Justus Perthes in Gotha, Germany, the map bears the German title 'Westliche Halbkugel,' meaning 'Western Hemisphere,' and was drawn by Adolf Stieler for his landmark Stieler's Hand-Atlas, one of the most authoritative German cartographic works of the 19th century.
