Description
This 1870 double-panel engraved map by A.J. Johnson of New York presents Scandinavia in fine cartographic detail, with the left panel depicting Sweden and Norway — the two kingdoms then united under the Swedish crown — and the right panel showing Denmark alongside Schleswig and Holstein, the disputed duchies at the heart of 19th-century European diplomacy. Hand-applied pastel washes in pink, green, and teal distinguish the regional divisions, while decorative rope-pattern borders frame the composition in the characteristic style of Johnson's Family Atlas. The aged cream tones and meticulous typography give the piece an authoritative, antique elegance suited to a study, library, or travel-themed room.
