Description

This finely engraved 1862 double-hemisphere world map, titled in German 'Westliche Halbkugel' (Western Hemisphere) and 'Oestliche Halbkugel' (Eastern Hemisphere), presents the entire globe across two large circular projections with delicate hand-applied color highlighting continents, oceans, and political boundaries. A central inset panel focuses on Australien (Australia) and the surrounding Pacific region, while four smaller polar and regional globe vignettes frame the composition. The map originates from Adolf Stieler's renowned 'Hand-Atlas,' published by Justus Perthes in Gotha, Germany — one of the most respected cartographic publishers of the 19th century — making this a collector-quality example of Victorian-era scientific cartography.
