Description

This beautifully detailed 1862 hand-colored atlas map by A.J. Johnson depicts the states of Ohio and Indiana side by side, rendered in soft pinks, greens, and blues with county borders, roads, railroads, and town names meticulously labeled. Ohio, known as the Buckeye State, borders Lake Erie to the north, visible at the upper right of the map, while Indiana lies to its west. A decorative engraved vignette in the lower right corner features a prominent neoclassical building, and the map is framed by an ornate filigreed border typical of Johnson's celebrated mid-19th-century atlas series.
