Description
A hand-colored engraved map of British India, titled 'Hindostan or British India,' published by J.H. Colton in 1855 and bearing plate number 95. The map depicts the Indian subcontinent — including present-day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka — with regional territories color-coded in soft greens, pinks, and yellows, and an inset detail map of southern British India in the lower right. British India during this period encompassed vast territories administered by the East India Company, just two years before the Indian Rebellion of 1857 led to direct Crown rule.
