Description
This richly decorated 1852 engraved map by Victor Levasseur depicts the Département du Var in southeastern France, part of the celebrated Côte d'Azur (French Riviera) region along the Mediterranean coast. The central cartographic detail is framed by elaborate allegorical vignettes — wine barrels, agricultural produce, classical busts, and figures at leisure — reflecting the region's renowned viticulture and Mediterranean abundance. Statistical tables in French flank the map, lending it a scholarly, atlas-page character consistent with Levasseur's celebrated 'Atlas National Illustré de la France.'
