Description

This beautifully hand-colored 1850 engraved map depicts Mexico and Guatemala with multiple inset panels, including the Valley of Mexico, the Guatemala and Central America region, and the Gulf of Mexico coastline, all rendered in soft pastel greens, yellows, and pinks with fine typographic detail. Published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. of Philadelphia, it reflects mid-19th century cartographic conventions at a pivotal moment when Texas had recently been annexed by the United States in 1845. The decorative green border and meticulous place-name lettering give the piece a scholarly yet elegant character that suits both study and display.
