Description
This beautifully hand-colored 1850 antique map of Indiana, published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. and engraved in the style of Samuel Augustus Mitchell, depicts the state's counties, roads, and distances in soft pastel hues of pink, yellow, green, and blue. Indiana, the 19th U.S. state admitted to the Union in 1816, is shown in rich county-by-county detail, with the Ohio River forming its southern border and Lake Michigan visible at the upper right. A decorative green border frames the composition alongside inset tables of canal boat routes and town distances, evoking the golden age of American cartography.
