Description

This hand-colored 1846 engraved map of Kentucky depicts the state's counties, roads, and distances in vivid pink, gold, and green tones, with inset maps of the Falls of Ohio and an overview of surrounding states. Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, was admitted to the Union in 1792 and borders the Ohio River to its north, which is prominently featured in the lower-left inset detail. Published by Mitchell and attributed to the Burroughs imprint, the map includes a detailed distance table and reflects mid-19th-century American cartographic artistry.
