Description
This elegant 1818 John Pinkerton engraved map depicts Australasia, featuring the continent then labeled 'New Holland' (modern-day Australia) rendered in soft rose-pink, alongside New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the scattered islands of the South Pacific and Grand Southern Ocean. The hand-colored cartography captures the geographical knowledge of the early 19th century, when much of Australia's interior remained unexplored and its coastline had only recently been charted by European navigators. A decorative title cartouche in the lower left adds classical character, making this a striking piece of historical cartographic art for any study, library, or travel-themed space.
