Description

This hand-colored engraved map, published by London cartographer John Cary in 1806, depicts the full extent of Asia alongside Polynesia and Australia — then labeled 'New Holland' — rendered in delicate washes of green, pink, and yellow against an aged cream ground. Cary was one of Britain's most respected map publishers of the early 19th century, known for accuracy and clean engraving, and this work reflects the era's expanding geographic knowledge of the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions. The warm, antique palette and ornate typography lend it an air of scholarly elegance, making it an ideal accent for a study, library, or travel-themed interior.
