Description

This detail from Gustav Klimt's monumental Beethoven Frieze (1902) depicts a row of ethereal female figures with auburn hair, eyes closed in serene contemplation, their pale arms raised as if in supplication or gentle gesture. The figures are bathed in a luminous rainbow gradient — shifting from teal and violet at center to warm coral and gold at the edges — with sinuous organic forms and dotted motifs characteristic of Klimt's Viennese Secession style. The Beethoven Frieze was created for the 14th Vienna Secession exhibition as a visual interpretation of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, and the original remains permanently installed in the Secession Building in Vienna, Austria.
