Description
This detail depicts two figures locked in a tender embrace, the woman's pale, serene face resting against the richly ornamented robe of her companion, rendered in Klimt's signature mosaic-like patterns of gold spirals, geometric shapes, and bold colors. The work is part of the Stoclet Frieze, a monumental decorative cycle created by Gustav Klimt between 1905 and 1911 for the Palais Stoclet in Brussels, Belgium — a landmark of the Vienna Secession and Gesamtkunstwerk tradition. The sensuous interplay of flat decorative fields and intimate human figures exemplifies Klimt's fusion of fine art and applied ornament.
