Description

This woodblock print depicts Noboto Bay (Noboto no ura), a tidal inlet on the eastern shore of Edo Bay in present-day Chiba Prefecture, Japan, framed by towering torii gates of a Shinto shrine while figures bustle along the shore carrying goods and a kite soars overhead. In the far distance, the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji floats serenely above the horizon, a hallmark device of Hokusai's celebrated Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series (c. 1830–1832).
