Description
This woodblock print depicts a rural hillside landscape at Shimo Meguro — the lower district of Meguro, historically a village on the southern outskirts of Edo (present-day Tokyo) — with terraced fields of golden vegetation, thatched farmhouses, and travelers on a winding path. In the distant valley between rolling green hills, the iconic snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji is glimpsed above a shimmering blue bay, illustrating Hokusai's mastery of integrating the sacred mountain into everyday scenes. Part of his landmark Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, this print exemplifies the Ukiyo-e style with its flat planes of color, bold outlines, and harmonious balance of human activity and nature.
