Description
A large red-hulled Japanese sailing vessel rides calm blue-green waters beneath an expansive sky, its white sails and rigging rendered with crisp, confident lines characteristic of Hokusai's woodblock technique. The distant silhouette of Mount Fuji is faintly visible on the horizon, anchoring the scene within the famous 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' series. Kazusa, the coastal province depicted, is located in what is now Chiba Prefecture on the Boso Peninsula facing Tokyo Bay, a historically important maritime route during the Edo period.
