Description
A graceful wooden boat glides across a tranquil lotus pond, its passengers — elegantly dressed figures in traditional Japanese garb — peering over the sides at the water below, creating a scene of quiet wonder. The composition is awash in soft violet and lavender tones, with lily pads and aquatic grasses filling the surface of the water in a rhythmic, decorative pattern characteristic of Hokusai's ukiyo-e style. Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849), the celebrated Edo-period Japanese master known for works such as 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa,' brought extraordinary sensitivity to everyday scenes of nature and leisure throughout his long career.
