Description
A dramatic Japanese woodblock-style scene depicts Mount Fuji as a towering dark mass against a stormy sky, with jagged bolts of lightning slashing across the foreground and white clouds clinging to the mountain's snow-capped peak. The composition uses deep blacks, cool blues, and stark whites to convey ferocious weather and the mountain's awesome scale. This work is from Hokusai's iconic 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' series; Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak at 3,776 meters and a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the subject throughout that celebrated series.
