Description
This woodblock print depicts the interior of a teahouse or shop at Yoshida post-town on the famous Tōkaidō highway, one of the five major roads of Edo-period Japan connecting Edo (present-day Tokyo) to Kyoto. Through the open storefront, the distant silhouette of Mount Fuji is visible across a calm blue expanse, while animated figures — travelers, merchants, and workers — bustle in the foreground. The scene captures the lively commercial spirit of Yoshida-juku (modern-day Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture), the 34th of the 53 stations along the Tōkaidō.
