Description
Two fishing boats ride the choppy blue waves of Tago Bay, their crews hauling nets against a sweeping coastal panorama of green-forested shores and distant thatched-roof villages. The iconic snow-capped cone of Mount Fuji rises serenely in the background beneath a pale sky, rendered in Hokusai's characteristic bold outlines and flat planes of color. This print is from the celebrated series 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji,' in which Hokusai depicted Fuji—Japan's highest peak at 3,776 meters—from dramatically varied vantage points across the country.
