Description

This iconic woodblock print captures a sudden gust of wind scattering papers and a hat into the sky as travelers struggle to hold their footing along a winding coastal path, with a lone bent tree dramatically silhouetted against a pale sky. Ejiri was a post-town in Suruga Province (present-day Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan), situated along the historic Tōkaidō highway near Suruga Bay, with the distant peak of Mount Fuji faintly visible on the left horizon. Part of Hokusai's celebrated series 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji,' this print is renowned for its dynamic composition and masterful depiction of wind and movement.
