Description

Two fishermen perch on a rocky coastal promontory at Kajikazawa in Kai Province (present-day Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan), one standing and casting a long fishing line into the churning blue waves below. The distant, snow-capped summit of Mount Fuji rises serenely above a luminous orange horizon band, tying the scene to Hokusai's iconic Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series. The bold outlines, flat planes of color, and dynamic wave forms are quintessential examples of Ukiyo-e woodblock printing at its peak.
