Description

This woodblock print depicts Shichiri Beach in Sagami Province (present-day Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan), with rolling waves lapping a wide sandy shore and a rocky, tree-covered promontory in the middle ground. The snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji rises serenely in the upper right against a warm orange and pale-blue sky, while scattered buildings nestle among lush green hills. The composition belongs to Hokusai's iconic 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' series (c. 1831), in which Fuji is glimpsed from diverse vantage points across Japan.
