Description

This striking reimagined woodblock print depicts the famous cherry-blossom hill of Gotenyama at Shinagawa, a celebrated viewing spot along the Tōkaidō road south of Edo (modern Tokyo), where crowds of figures gather beneath blossoming trees with Mount Fuji visible across the bay. The original composition comes from Hokusai's renowned series 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' (c. 1830–1832), here rendered in a dramatic monochrome palette with the cherry blossoms vividly colorized in vivid violet-purple. The contrast between the ink-wash grays and the luminous purple blooms creates a bold, contemporary mood that honors the master's iconic ukiyo-e style.
