Description

This woodblock print depicts a serene winter evening at the Drum Bridge (Taiko-bashi) in Meguro, Edo (present-day Tokyo), with snow blanketing trees, rooftops, and the arched stone bridge while small figures cross in the foreground and a river winds through the middle distance. The scene is plate 111 from Hiroshige's celebrated series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' (Meisho Edo Hyakkei, 1856–1858), one of the most acclaimed ukiyo-e print series ever produced.
