Description
This woodblock print depicts Inokashira Pond in Musashino, near Edo (modern-day Tokyo), with a serene Benten Shrine nestled among tall pine trees in the foreground and cranes gliding over the misty blue water. The distant mountains and a soft gradient sky of orange fading to deep blue lend the scene a quiet, meditative atmosphere characteristic of Hiroshige's landscape work. Inokashira Pond, located in what is now Kichijoji, Tokyo, is a historic site celebrated for its natural beauty and its small island shrine dedicated to Benzaiten, goddess of water and music.
