Description
This woodblock print depicts the Minami-Shinagawa and Samezu coastline near Edo (present-day Tokyo), with fishermen poling flat-bottomed boats through shallow, reed-dotted tidal flats as sails dot the distant bay. A pale pink and yellow sunset sky stretches to the horizon, where Mount Fuji rises faintly in the upper right — a hallmark of Hiroshige's panoramic coastal views. The scene is plate 109 from Hiroshige's celebrated series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' (1856–1859), depicting the historic Shinagawa waterfront, once a bustling post-town on the Tōkaidō road south of the city.
