This Japanese woodblock print depicts a view from aboard a ferry crossing the Haneda waterway near Edo (modern-day Tokyo), with a boatman's hands gripping a rope and oar in the foreground while a tranquil estuary scene unfolds behind — small sailing vessels, reed marshes, and the Benten Shrine set against a glowing pink-and-red twilight horizon. The work belongs to Hiroshige's renowned series '100 Famous Views of Edo' (Meisho Edo Hyakkei), published in 1857. Haneda, located at the mouth of the Tama River on Tokyo Bay, was a well-known ferry crossing and pilgrimage site for the Benten Shrine, a goddess of the sea and fortune.
