Description

This woodblock print depicts a serene night scene along the Asakusa River (Sumida River) in Edo — present-day Tokyo — featuring a large boat moored near the Ommayagashi (御厩河岸) ferry landing, with a sweeping pine tree silhouetted against a deep indigo, star-flecked sky. Several smaller boats glide along the quiet river, their passengers illuminated by the cool night air, while the far embankment recedes into the darkness. This print is from Hiroshige's celebrated series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' (1856–1858), which documented the landscapes and landmarks of the Tokugawa-era capital and is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Ukiyo-e art.
