Description
This vivid woodblock print depicts a sweeping view from the cliffs of Konodai looking out over the Tone River, one of Japan's longest rivers flowing through the Kantō region, with sailing vessels gliding across calm blue waters and Mount Fuji visible faintly on the horizon. Gnarled pine trees cling to the rocky clifftop in the foreground while small figures take in the panoramic scene, rendered in Hiroshige's characteristic layered blues and soft greens. The composition, from his '36 Views of Mt. Fuji' series (1858), captures the serene beauty of the Japanese countryside with masterful use of color gradation and traditional ukiyo-e perspective.
