Description
This vibrant woodblock print depicts the Susaki promontory at Shinagawa, a historic post town on the southern edge of old Edo (present-day Tokyo), Japan, overlooking Tokyo Bay at dusk. A pine-covered spit of land with a small red shrine juts into the calm blue-green water, while white-sailed boats drift across the broad bay beneath a softly glowing pink horizon. This print is plate No. 108 from Hiroshige's celebrated '100 Famous Views of Edo' series (Meisho Edo Hyakkei), one of the most iconic collections in Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking.
