Description

This stunning woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige captures the serene wetlands and canals of Minowa, Kanasugi, and Mikawashima — three districts in the northeastern outskirts of Edo (present-day Tokyo) — rendered in deep indigo and teal beneath a luminous twilight sky. Slender pine trees, arched bridges, and small figures animate the tranquil waterways, while dark, rugged mountains rise in the distance. The scene is plate 103 from Hiroshige's celebrated series 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo' (1856–1859), a landmark of Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking.
