This celebrated woodblock print depicts a narrow mountain pass at Okabe, the 21st station of the Tokaido road, showing travelers winding through a dramatic gorge flanked by towering cedar and pine trees in deep teal and indigo tones, with a small settlement glimpsed in the misty blue distance. The composition captures the famous Utsu no Yama (Utsu Mountain) pass in present-day Shizuoka Prefecture, a route long celebrated in classical Japanese poetry for its dark, ivy-draped path.
