Description
This vibrant Japanese woodblock print depicts powerful rolling ocean waves surging past the rocky Satta Pass coastline in Suruga Province (present-day Shizuoka Prefecture), with the iconic snow-capped summit of Mount Fuji rising serenely in the background beneath a rose-tinted sky. A lone sailing vessel navigates the calm middle waters while a wind-bent pine clings to the cliffs at left and a flock of birds traces the horizon, creating a dynamic contrast between turbulent foreground and tranquil distance. The work belongs to Hiroshige's celebrated series '36 Views of Mount Fuji,' published in 1858, and is widely regarded as one of the great masterpieces of the ukiyo-e tradition.
